CALLER 1: Hey there, you guys missed the mark again. Yeah, I understand that the Gilroy varsity softball team didn’t win against Hollister. But what you guys didn’t know and didn’t print is that the JV girls did a fantastic job at putting down the ‘Balers. Please, print it.

GREEN PHONE: Ask and you shall receive, Caller 1. The JV ‘Stangs beat Hollister 5–0 on Tuesday and Notre Dame 2–1 in extra innings on Thursday. Coach Joey Gonzalez said this was the first time in about eight years that GHS had beaten Notre Dame at the JV level. Melinda Ortiz earned both wins on the mound, and was in the double–digits for strikeouts, according to Gonzalez. Against Hollister, the JV offense was led by Cassandra Barrera (2 RBI’s) and Caitlin Perotti (1 RBI). With the wins, the Mustangs are now 14–3–1 overall and 3–2–1 in TCAL. The JV team has four games remaining and we here at Green Phone will step up our effort to bring you the results.

CALLER 2: I’m sitting here reading the comments by residents of Morgan Hill in support of Coach Glen Webb and I think that’s all fine. I happen to be a parent of a student at Live Oak and at Sobrato and I personally think that all this nonsense and all these attacks on Sobrato need to stop. Whatever grievances that people of this town have, you need to take them up with the district and leave the schools out because after all, you’re hurting the kids. Does anybody in this town care about what the kids hear and the reflection this has on the kids of Sobrato? Coach Webb has every right to feel the way he does and so do the parents of students at Live Oak, regardless what happens with Sobrato pulling out. But I guarantee you it was for no reason other than the safety of these young men and these parents had the right to feel that way for the safety of their sons. … The school is here. We need to embrace the school and stop all this bickering. … The school is here, embrace it, or take your comments to the board and stop bickering in the newspaper and in public where these kids have to feel this.

GREEN PHONE: Caller, we agree that the students – and particularly the student athletes – at Sobrato and Live Oak are the ones who stand to be hurt the most by what seems to be developing into a feud at the administrative level between the two schools. We also think that over time, when Sobrato is no longer the “new school,” a lot of this bickering will become a thing of the past.

CALLER 3: Hello, I’m calling to say congratulations to Shea Lemos, a Gilroy High School senior athlete who has been awarded a scholarship to Cal Lutheran University. Shea will be playing football for the Cal Lutheran team as a punter and cornerback. Shea has been determined to fulfill his dreams of going to college and playing football. He is to be congratulated.

GREEN PHONE: Caller 3, the Dispatch congratulates Shea and wishes him the best of luck at Cal Lutheran. Thanks for sharing the news. We’ll miss Shea a whole bunch here at Green Phone, because he was always great for a quote after a football game. Just a solid kid all around.
