Highway 152 was closed for nearly two weeks due to damage
Gilroy – After a twelve-day closure, Highway 152 will reopen by 5pm, Saturday.
Hecker Pass was completely closed to traffic beginning June 19, between the Casserly Road/Carlton Road and Mt. Madonna exits at the Santa Clara and Santa Cruz county line.
Winter rain and storm damage to the slope and embankment along the highway caused the closure. Layers of natural soil reinforced with plastic mesh compose the rebuilt embankment.
During the closure, traffic was routed to Highway 129 with detour signs posted throughout Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and San Benito counties.
Native grasses are being planted to beautify the area.
