In total, 9 GHS basketball players earn year-end awards
GILROY

Sophomore post Chelsea Hill was named to the Tri-County Athletic League’s first team this year after she averaged 12.25 points per game and led the Mustangs to an 8-4 record in the TCAL.

The Mustangs finished in third place in league and Hill led Gilroy in both field goals and free throws.

Joining Hill in the all-league selections was junior guard Sovi Nou, who contributed 8.09 points per game.

Kristin Costa was named to the all-defensive team, while teammate Ashley Lambert was selected to the “Pursuing Victory with Honor” team.

The Mustangs completed their season at 18-11 and in the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs.

North Salinas’ Bina Abbott and San Benito’s Vanessa Farias were named co-MVP’s of the TCAL, while Vikings head coach Darren Jackson and Haybalers head coach David Kaplansky shared the coach of the year honors as well.

On the boys side, Gilroy’s Tyler Hartman was named first team all-league after he led the Mustangs with 11.75 points per game. The 6-foot-5 senior forward also led the team in field goals, free throws, rebounds (9.07 rpg), blocks (1.07 bpg), and was second on the team in steals (1.61).

Mustangs Elijah Harrell and Greg Hamik were second team selections, while teammate Dolapo Opere was chosen to the all-defensive team.

Raul Quintanar was selected to the sportsmanship team.

Gilroy compiled a 5-7 record in the TCAL, 15-13 overall, and ended its season in the second round of the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs.

Alisal’s Jonathon Sosa was named the TCAL’s MVP, while Palma head coach Paul Alioto was chosen as the coach of the year.
