Men’s CCC

Gilroy – The Hit Men combined a 21-6 win over the VFW Vets with some assistance Wednesday at Christmas Hill Park to move into a tie for first place in the second-half Men’s CCC League playoff scramble.

Russ Chagnon went 4-for-4 and Mario Razo provided a single, double and triple as the Hit Men improve to 4-1 in second-half action. Jay Contreras went 3-for-3 and Danny Melendez homered for the VFW Vets.

The Hit Men gained the tie for first place when South Valley Plumbing-Elam Trucking (4-1) dropped a 19-18 squeaker to Sticky Fingers in the nightcap.

The Plumbers-Truckers snapped a 14-14 tie when Mark Merz singled and scored on a Louie Godinez two-out single in the top of the sixth inning. Randy Evanger capped a three-run seventh for South Valley Plumbing-Elam Trucking with a two-run home run.

Danny Rubalcava lined a two-run home run to pull Sticky Fingers within two runs at 18-16 in the bottom of the seventh. Joe Conrique ripped a two-out RBI-single. After Anthony Siaz added a run-scoring single to tie the score, Oscar Robles won the game with a run-scoring single over third bas.

Robles went 6-for-6 and Rubalcava homered twice. Josh Newton homered for the losers.

The Desperados powered past Kenko Utility 21-4 in the opener. Benjie Casarez lined a home run, triple and single for the Desperados. Phil Clark went 3-for-3 and Dennis Barroza homered for the winners. Kelly Brown, Eddie Sanchez, Richard Farley and Don Tucker each mustered two hits for Kenko Utility.

WoMen’s C

Farmers Insurance surprised Goldsmith Seeds 14-11 Wednesday at Las Animas Park to leave both Women’s C League teams at 4-1 atop the six-team circuit.

Suzanne Fox and Nicole Lara each drilled two hits in the fourth inning as Farmers posted 11 runs to take a 14-4 lead. Fox paced the winners with three hits. Monica Mayclan stroked a triple and two singles for Goldsmith.

Image and Design Salon and Day Spa-Guy’s Heating also moved to 4-1 with a 24-17 win over M&M’s.

Image-Guy’s extended a 14-13 lead with 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Laura Vargas posted a three-run home run to cap the rally. Chrissy Ivory took game batting honors for the winners with three singles. Debra Grue and Jessie Wrye each cracked four hits for M&M’s.

Fidelity Funding Solutions eased past Longhouse Restaurant 15-14 when Bridget Adams lined a two-run single in the bottom of the final inning. Tracy Nelson drilled five hits for Fidelity Funding. Theresa Rayner ripped four hits for Longhouse.
