It is even true in other sports such as baseball when you see a slightly built second baseman hit 10 homeruns more than a big, strong catcher.
The key to hitting a golf ball farther is simply club head speed. But that doesn’t mean just swing harder. It does mean that your club must be accelerating at the right time.
At the top of your backswing when you set your hands the relationship between your left arm and shaft of club should be at or near a 90-degree angle. Most people loose power during the downswing because they flatten out this angle too soon. They hit the ball by pushing the club down towards the ball with their right hand. This turns that 90-degree angle into almost a straight line with the left arm and club before you hit the ball.
Hold that 90-degree angle as long as possible into the hitting area. This ‘stores’ your energy and delays releasing it until impact when it is important. A sure way to get this feeling is by pulling the butt end of the club down toward the ball as long as you can. As long as it is pointing toward the ball then you are not ‘flattening’ out your angle.
Remember, when all else fails, take a lesson, you’ll be surprised how much we can help.
