DEAR EDITOR:

How dare you insult the children and teachers at El Portal about test scores and grade levels. Have you forgotten that all of these kids were taught by Gilroy Unified teachers before becoming El Portal students?

If I had the chance to go to any other school district but Gilroy, I would have taken the opportunity as quickly as I could. The teachers in our community were supposed to support and encourage students 110 percent .At Gilroy High that’s not the case. As a freshman there, my world history teacher told me and my whole class, “I sure feel sorry for you guys. When you go to college they are going to look at your portfolios and know you went to Gilroy High because you can’t even write essays.”

What kind of encouragement is that? All Gilroy High is is a popularity contest. Maybe the faculty at Gilroy High should be more worried about these students than El Portal’s. since the teachers don’t really care about you unless you play sports.
