Dear Editor,
Kudos to Gilroy High School cheerleader Nora Hunt for her
excellent article! I was glad to see someone had such a mature and
intelligent take on the cheerleaders’ situation.
This leads me to segue over to Dina Campeau’s column. I was very
offended, and so were many of the students, parents and staff from
GHS.
Dear Editor,
Kudos to Gilroy High School cheerleader Nora Hunt for her excellent article! I was glad to see someone had such a mature and intelligent take on the cheerleaders’ situation.
This leads me to segue over to Dina Campeau’s column. I was very offended, and so were many of the students, parents and staff from GHS.
As my son said, and I paraphrase … “how can she say the school is in the toilet when everyone is working so hard?” I wonder how someone can write such a negative comment without specific substantiation.
He may be speaking only for himself and the other students, but I also want to acknowledge the hard-working teachers, guidance counselors and administration. Almost everyone at Gilroy High School is putting great effort into improving school achievement.
Back to Mrs. Campeau’s negative article … One sentence I keep hearing from parents, and in some circles it is almost a litany: “The parents of GHS students support the school, the community does not.” What does this signify? Those who know, support the school. Those who listen to rumors or read the negativity in the paper might not.
One of my biggest concerns is the flight of the affluent families to private schools. I think these families are leaving because of the negative articles and rumors. GHS is a very good school and continually improving. We pulled our son out of a highly regarded private school and put him in GHS … he is having a much better experience and is certainly challenged in his classes.
As an aside, several of my son’s friends were able to enter University of California universities as sophomores rather than freshman because of the AP classes and the coordinating agreement with Gavilan College.
As a concerned individuals, we need to support our local high school, rather than belittle the efforts of its staff and the involved community.
