Gilroy – Fire and police officials are investigating a small fire that broke out in the garage of a home on Festa Aglio Drive Thursday afternoon. There was little damage and no injuries, however, burn patterns found at the scene caused fire officials to open an investigation to the cause.
“I don’t believe it’s arson,” said Division Chief Ed Bozzo. “Arson is the intention to destroy something. We don’t think that’s the case with this fire.”
The single alarm fire was reported about 12pm and when firefighters arrived on scene two of the occupants of the home – two juvenile boys – had already put out most of the flames. A mattress and gas can were inside the garage at the time of the fire and fire officials are working to determine which ignited first.
“It’s still under investigation,” Bozzo said.
Damage was limited to the sheet rock – there was no structural damage, he said.
Based upon witness statements and burn patterns discovered fire officials opened an investigation to determine the cause.
