Is it your sense that crime in Gilroy has been on the increase for the last year, stayed the same, or decreased?
• It seems to me that crime is on the decrease. This is cyclical and often follows the economic trends in our town. It seems like we haven’t had large or dramatic crimes this past year – thanks be to God – and just the routine stuff in the blotter.
• Crime has definitely been on the rise, in one way or another we are all touched by it – property theft, shoplifting, assault it’s everywhere.  I read over the summer that crime was up 69 percent in Gilroy. That is a number we should all pay attention to.
• Decrease.  Since there haven’t been major criminal issues in the local news in many months, my opinion is less drastic crime. In the past there have been murders, huge drug busts, serious gang interventions and rapes.  It’s peaks and valleys like everything else in life. I hope the trend is continued decline in shocking criminal activity.
• Decrease, only because I have not been reading or hearing as much. Seems like Morgan Hill crime has been in the news more than Gilroy.
• There have been some unusual crimes like armed bank robberies and many auto thefts. It seems to be the same, but maybe less violent crimes.
• Stayed the same. Even though the rates of various crimes are up, GPD is doing a very good job of stemming the tide.
• I think it has increased. A terrible thing for our wonderful City!
• Increased. Gilroy doesn’t feel as safe as it once did, whether it is the kids hanging around in parking lots at the parks, the vagrants who are all around the City or the gang criminals, it seems like you have to be on guard all the time. It would be nice to have more officers on patrol and visible. That would make a statement and help keep those who are up to no good on their best behavior.
