Dear Editor:
Thank you for this opportunity, Mr. Taylor.
Dear Editor:

Thank you for this opportunity, Mr. Taylor.

In your Jan. 15 column, you stated that I defended Trent Lott and said that he should not be criticized. That is a lie, I said no such thing.

You said that I argued that liberals victimized “poor Trent.” That is a lie, I argued no such thing.

You said that I justified the actions of Strom Thurmond and supported Trent Lott. That is a lie, I said no such thing. I would never support Trent Lott; he is way too liberal for me.

You said that southern states pursued pro-lynching laws and that the federal government had a duty to abolish lynching in the South. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I am not aware that any southern state or any other state has ever made lynching legal. The only government body that I know of that specifically allowed vigilante action is San Francisco, CA. Is that statement of yours another lie?

You imply that lynching minorities was the official policy of southern state governments. Do you perchance have any proof or is this yet another lie?

The point of my letter, Mr. Taylor, was that there are things in the world that are worse than racism. I read an article a while back where a young, liberal sociology student counted up the number of racial lynchings in Mississippi over a period of 20-30 years. The number was about 40. During that same period, socialism and autocracy murdered over 100 million human beings.

Socialism is worse than racism. If you argue that we should accept socialism to end racism, I call you a fool.

Autocracy is worse than racism. If you argue that we should accept autocracy to end racism, I call you a fool.

You make the argument that the federal government should step in and stop states that practice reprehensible behavior. Mr. Taylor, the states have been crushed with your logic. All 50 of them are defenseless, in helpless thrall to the federal government. When the federal government begins to practice reprehensible behavior how exactly do you plan to stop them? The UN? When the UN begins to practice reprehensible behavior, how are you going to stop them?

I hold before you the examples of Hitler’s Germany, Stalin’s Soviet Union, Mao Zedong’s China, Pol Pot’s Cambodia where no one could stop the government. Those governments killed and killed and killed until blood ran like rivers in the streets. They were able to do this because of the efforts of people like you. With your continued help, it can happen here.

Incidentally, the Emancipation Proclamation was in 1863, not 1861.
