Born in Phoenix, AZ on May 20, 1929, John Francis Culligan was returned to the arms of our Heavenly Father on October 31, 2016 at the age of 87. John was preceded in death by; his parents, Emmett Joseph and Anna Bridget Culligan; brother, Thomas, sisters, Mary Margaret and Anna Marie, and Joyce, his dear wife of 58 years. John is survived by; brothers, Jude and Gerald, and sister Catherine. Ever loving and patient father, grandfather and great grandfather to Emily and Jeff Chadwick (Beau Sizemore (Miranda), Chrissy Mulder (Justin and Ashlyn)), Mary Culligan and Robert Couch , Courtney and Pete Estrada (Casey and Cody), John and Beth Culligan (Sean and Cara), Liz and Jim Bolton, (J.J., Jillian, and Jaci), Tim and Laurie Culligan, (Ryan and Megan), Clare and Mark Campaigne (Madeline, Drew, Jameson, and Cooper). A 48 year resident of Gilroy, John took genuine pleasure in all aspects of life. Son of the original Culligan Man, John truly believed that pure water was the key ingredient to living a healthy life. Loved by friends and family for his sense of humor and storytelling, John could always be counted on to bring a smile to everyone he encountered. Educated by Jesuits at Loyola High School (1947) and Loyola University (1951), nothing was more important to John than his deep and endearing relationship with Christ his Lord. An active member of Saint Mary Parish for decades, John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. While John was never one to be short on words, he led by action and example, teaching his children to be strong in both faith and selflessness. Through his faith, John learned that genuine peace and happiness could only be achieved by loving and serving God and others around him.
