Former long time Hollister businesswomen and community leader June E. Paine died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at the William and Inez Mabie Skilled Nursing Center. She was 84.
A native of San Francisco, Mrs. Paine moved to Hollister in 1946. She and her late husband Delmer F. Paine were co-owners of Paines Club and then Paines Bar and Restaurant.
The couple could often be seen working side by side, she as a hostess and bookkeeper and he as bar manager.
Mrs. Paine received her education in San Francisco. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish; member and Past President of Sacred Heart Mothers Club; room mother for the children at Sacred Heart School; first co-chairperson of Sacred Heart School Halloween Fun Night.
She was an active member and support person to the Grandmothers Club, the Italian Catholic Federation and Sacred Heart Parish Fashion Show in which she modeled occasionally. She was known as a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law.
Her enjoyments and talents included cooking, being a seamstress – sewing clothes for her children from their young years until the days of their weddings.She even made bridemaids and wedding dresses for her daughters.
Being able to take cruises, trips to Reno, and spend time in different parts of the world was very rewarding to her. Playing cards and dominoes with her daughters and their children brought great joy into her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Marti Seminoff of Sacramento, Alice Reed of Hollister, Nancy Paine of Hollister, and Janet French of Tres Pinos; sons-in-law, Craig Seminoff and Mitt French; grandchildren Jeremy Seminoff (Tomomi), Molly West (Jeremy), Amy Donati (Adam), Cara McVey (David), Annessa Miguel and Jessica and Elliot French; great-grandchildren, Timothy and Rina Seminoff, and Samuel and Joel West; brothers, Robert Hull (Daphne) of Pasco, Wash., and Vernon Smith of Bayside; sisters-in-law, Gloria Buckingham and Elverna Paine of Hollister and Jennie Paine of Napa; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband Delmer died April 22, 2004.
Visitation will be held between 5 and 8pm, Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the chapel of the Grunnagle Ament Nelson 870 San Benito St., Hollister.
Family and friends will gather at the mortuary chapel on Friday at 9:30am to proceed to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass beginning at l0 am.
Entombment, Calvary Mausoleum. Donations are preferred to William & Inez Mabie Skilled Nursing Center Southside in care of the mortuary chapel.
