Mustangs Pounded by Salinas, Can't Clinch Title

The boys junior varsity baseball team lost a big lead Wednesday against North Salinas but held on for a 9-8 win.

Lance Motch pitched the first six innings and Gilroy led 9-3. The Mustangs scored in four of the six innings in which they batted.

The freshman boys baseball team played to an 11-11 tie Tuesday with Carmel.

Solid individual performances highlighted the JV girls swim team’s 10-point loss to Notre Dame on Wednesday. Alyssa Rothenberg was first in the 200 freestyle and took second in the 100 breaststroke. Janae Lance was first in the 100 individual medley. Rina Alvarado placed second in the 50 butterfly and second in the 50 freestyle. Also placing was Marissa McAvoy, coming in second in the 100 freestyle.

The JV boys volleyball team had a three-game win over Palma on Thursday, capturing the first game 25-19, dropping the second 25-22, and winning the third game 15-7.

Ashley Harrington pitched the Mustangs to a 4-2 win in junior varsity softball, pitching all seven innings. Lauren Chavez had two hits and Michael Motch had a triple to left field. Freshman shortstop Alyssa Castro turned a double play.

The girls freshman softball team slammed North Salinas 20-2 Thursday for its second win of the season. First-year-pitcher Brenna O’Neill allowed only three hits. O’Neill had more than that hitting, going 4 for 4. Adrianna Osuna was 4 for 5 with a grand slam in the third inning. Jasmine Gonzales was 4 for 4, and Kimberly Westbrooke and Monica Ondriezek were both 2 for 3.
