Morgan Hill – FedEx Kinkos opened its first store in Morgan Hill Monday morning, joining Peet’s Coffee & Tea at Madrone Village Shopping Center on Cochrane Road.
The package-delivery giant saw a steady stream of customers its first day, according to store manager Alisha Norrington, who oversees three employees.
“They were looking for color copies, fax machines and FedEx services,” reported Norrington, who worked as assistant manager at a Cupertino location before transferring to Morgan Hill’s smaller, more intimate store.
Norrington said she and her staff will host a grand opening party July 17.
In May, Peet’s became the first of four signed tenants to open at the new 80,000-square-foot Madrone Village, located west of U.S. 101.
The new shopping center, with its white stucco walls and red clay roof tiles, is located on Cochrane Road and Madrone Parkway opposite Cochrane Plaza, which houses Mervyn’s, McDonald’s, Target and other big-name stores.Â
Despite the ubiquity of Starbucks in Morgan Hill, Peet’s barista Sholley Gifford said business is perking up.
“We’re starting to get regulars,” Gifford said. “A lot of people are glad they don’t have to go to San Jose” for the store’s beans and specialty coffee drinks.
South Valley National Bank and Chipotle Mexican Grill are also scheduled to open soon after finishing tenant improvements.Â
The bank is shooting for a July 16 opening while the restaurant appears to be empty at this point.
