Gilroy – The Gilroy Lady Mustangs upended the San Benito Lady ‘Balers 3-0 at Garcia-Elder Field in soccer Thursday night.

It was the second time that the two teams have met this season and San Benito was unable to score in either contest, losing the first game 7-0.

Gilroy took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to Joann Pedroza’s goal assisted by Brittany Barnes. In the second half Barnes and Pedroza each found the back of the net with the other in on the assist.

Maia Guerrero was perfect in net for Gilroy.

“We had to adjust to the deeper defense they used,” head coach Jose Hernandez said. “We used a lot of give and go’s (Thursday) to combat that defense.

“It was a good effort,” Hernandez continued. “We controlled the tempo and the pace and the outcome was never really in doubt but we really need to work on how to finish.”

The Mustangs will need that finishing effort in full force on Saturday when they travel to ever-tough TCAL opponent, Live Oak on Saturday.
