The Gilroy Sister Cities Association would like to thank all those who supported our annual Dinner/Auction this year.
Our funds go towards entertaining and housing visitors from Gilroy’s six sister cities during the year.
This year we were honoring Takko-Machi, Japan at our dinner. The plans were made before the earthquake and unfortunately we had no visitors from Japan.
Therefore we decided to donate the majority of income from our fundraiser to Japan. The Suzuki Violin group also held a concert for Japan. Fortunately, Takko-Machi was not as affected by the earthquake/tsunami as other areas in Japan.
We recently sent $5,000 to Takko Machi and the mayor replied that the funds were put to good use providing relief efforts for victims of the tsunami. Unfortunately no one from Takko will be able to attend our Garlic Festival this year.
Please stop by the Sister Cities booth at the Garlic Festival to see the displays we have of our sister cities.
