Dear Editor,

The Gilroy Visitors Bureau was the idea of Bob Dyer when he was president of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce. Bob came to me to ask if I would obtain information on a Bureau for Gilroy.

Letters and phone calls were made to Visitor Bureaus in the state of California plus Oregon and Texas. We asked local people to join our committee. Even though some felt we were a bit premature, we were successful in signing up a great group. We wrote the original bylaws and presented them to the Chamber of Commerce and City Council for acceptance. I am certain a set of by laws is available now.

Our vision was to attract conventions here, too. as Gilroy and South County has so much to offer and our merchants and business people were to be No. 1. We did help each other and worked in harmony. Sandra Larson and I even had our kids helping … those being Joyce Patereau and Alex and Charlie Larson.

Now, selling a few things from a few big guys is a horrible plan. BROCHURES, BROCHURES and more BROCHURES are necessary. And from EVERYONE.

I am not happy about the Visitors Bureau being at the outlets. I know the rent is only $1 a month, but it is only $1 now.

Eleanor Frusetta, Gilroy
