Dear Editor,
I would like to clarify a few points concerning the need for a homeless shelter in Gilroy and the offer from my wife, Deb, and I of our warehouse at 8425 Monterey St.
First, the need for a project to supply a homeless shelter in Gilroy has been an ongoing effort preceding my involvement. Many hardworking people are and have been involved for years. This need is recognized and stands alone, independent of our offer of the 8425 Monterey St. warehouse.
If the Gilroy Homeless Outreach Task Force Group or the city finds a better building or a better opportunity, that’s great! Our offer is “strings” free and Deb and I are better off financially if another venue is chosen. After a year of work and improvements, this building is now ready to rent.
Second, a group of professionals, including bankers, lawyers and city officials will certainly scrutinize our offer and any possible duplicity would be exposed. Deb and I are flexible at this point to make sure every reasonable individual is satisfied as to our motives.
Third, if you can’t understand why anyone would actually care enough to give a gift from the heart or soul, then I guess I can’t explain it to you. If you are truly concerned – get involved contact the Gilroy Homeless Outreach Task Force and ask how you can help.
