Column Filled With ‘Utter Nonsense’ and ‘Written Like a Whiney Little Child to Boot’
Dear Editor,
With regard to the article “City Administrator Has the City Council Fully Conditioned,” the only person “throwing a tantrum” is your columnist Ben Anderson. His column filled with utter nonsense, and he writes like a whiney little child to boot.
The $1,700 laptops are far from the “biggest, newest and most unnecessary laptops known to man.” A friend recently purchased a Dell for more than $4,000, and that isn’t even the top of the line.
If IT manager Mr. David Chulick, who has done such an outstanding job and accomplished so much in his tenure with the City of Gilroy, believes these laptops are necessary for your city councilmembers, he’s probably right, and they probably deserve them. I’d suggest saving the $700 laptops for Ben Anderson, and see if you can find a “reality checker” to go along with the spell checker.

Lately, You’d Think Gilroy Could Take the Place of Sodom and Gomorrah
Dear Editor,
Recent sensationalized headlines would lead readers of the Dispatch to believe that our city’s antics rival those of Sodom and Gomorrah!
Tales of woe about law enforcement and firefighter pay, City Hall purchases and even the tragedy of a family dog poisoning have become so dramatized that readers must dig to find the facts.
The truth is that Gilroy is a safe and well run city. It has a low incidence of crime per capita, our budget operates in the black, and the “scandals” at City Hall sound at worst like a lack of communication – not some kind of vast conspiracy against the public.
I’m tired of reading headlines and stories that paint Gilroy in such a negative light. Most of the residents I’ve spoken with about these misrepresentations simply laugh it off, saying “what do you except, it’s the Dispatch.” Is this how you want people to perceive your newspaper? As a tabloid?
Please work to restore your readers’ faith by just reporting the facts and stop the McCarthy-like witch hunts. We depend on the Dispatch for our local news, not entertainment.

Duly Impressed by the Grill Used to Cook the Sausages at the Gilroy Garlic Festival
Dear Editor,
Just a note to say how impressed I was by the Heinzen Manufacturing grill I observed at Gourmet Alley during the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
It was being used to grill sausages for the festival.
I was there as a volunteer with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. I flew out just for the festival after seeing in on the Food Network last spring, and I’m hoping to volunteer again this year!
