The Dr. Tommy Tong Orthodontics Bandits secured the N0. 1-seed for the Gilroy Little League Majors softball playoffs with a 3-2 victory against the Earthbound Farm Heat on Wednesday night.
The heat upended the Bandits on Saturday by the identical 3-2 margin to take a half-game lead in the standings, but it was the Bandits who ultimately finished atop the leader board.
The Bandits took the lead in the third inning with Maria Sandoval knocking in Anjelica Reyes. Sandoval later scored on a single by Amber Herera.
The Heat tied the game on a two-run home run from Alli Hathaway homerun, which scored Pati Soria.
However, the Bandits came right back in their half of the inning with Reyes scoring again on Anna Gamboa’s fielder choice.
Gamboa struck out eight for the Bandits and the Heat’s Lauren Castro had seven strikeouts in five innings.
“Another great game against the Heat,” Bandits manager George Sandoval said. That was our third 3-2 game this season. The playoffs are going to be exciting with lots of great softball.”
