MORGAN HILL – Live Oak has 13 returners who were on the varsity squad last year returning including offensive All-TCAL standouts First Team Steve Conner and Second Team Daniel Salinas.
Those two will will again be used a lot offensively. Conner, who came in at quarterback to give the Acorns some options last year, will again be trying out for that spot. Salinas will be used mostly in the backfield but can also be used as a receiver.
Sammy Martinez and John Pedersen are two returning juniors on the team. Salinas and Crane, who was a guard last year, will be in the back field this year.
John Pederson and Sean Devlin are the two returning offensive linemen. Returners Michael Gamez listed at 250 pounds and Michael Samarron listed at 275 pounds bring a huge presence to the offensive and defensive line.
“Those two guys this year outweigh the whole line last year,” said Live Oak coach Glen Webb. “I think the line last year averaged 160 pounds dripping wet.”
Miquel Ayala will once again handle the place kicking duties and will also play defense. Players like Gabe Sedeberry, Matt Wahl, Johnny Ramirez and John Pedersen provide the Acorns with a strong back field.
Nick Rauschnott, who was the starting goalie for the soccer team, has got the quick reactions it takes to run the ball. He primarily was used in defense last year, but was able to try out the running back possition as well.
