Gilroy – The fifth annual Garlic City Fun Run is set for Saturday in downtown Gilroy. South Valley Street Rods, the Gilroy Downtown Business Association and the Gilroy Garlic Festival combine to provide entertainment, great food and of course, gorgeous cars for all to enjoy.
Registration for pre-1972 cars is available online at www.gilroyvisitor.org or you can pick up registration forms at several locations throughout Gilroy. Step back in time to the days of American Graffiti for an evening of great family fun.

Two plays open this month
Gilroy and Morgan Hill – Gavilan’s Summer Theater Arts Repertory is performing “The Jungle Book” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” this summer.
Both are musicals and feature local cast members and led by aspiring theater professionals.
The “Jungle Book” performances will run at the Morgan Hill at the Community Playhouse at 7:30pm Friday and Saturday.
Curtains for “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” open July 22 and 23 at the Gavilan College Theater in Gilroy at 7:30pm.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $8 for children under 12.

Give blood and save a life
Gilroy – A blood drive will be held today, 1:30 to 6:30pm at Al Sanchez Volkswagen showroom, 6800 Chestnut Street.
To donate blood you must be 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. American Red Cross volunteer blood donors are required to provide identification before donating blood.
The preferred identifiers include a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, or a Red Cross blood donor card.

Pet fair adoption Sunday
n Gilroy – Katie’s Friends and Buddy’s Pals Animal Rescue has many wonderful companions for adoption, including beautiful kittens and adult cats, along with three 7-month-old shepherd mix puppies.
The Adoption Fair will be held from 1 to 4pm, Sunday at Our Pet Shop, 705 First St.
