Meet university reps at annual transfer day

Gilroy – The Gavilan College/Transfer Center is sponsoring Transfer Day, 10am to 1pm, Thursday.

This event will bring more than 40 college and university representatives to Gavilan College Student Center for a huge college fair to provide students, staff and the community with information on transferring to baccalaureate granting institutions.

Current and prospective college students are invited to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about numerous options for higher education. Admission is free, campus parking is 75 cents for the day.

South County Cal-SOAP College Fair

Gilroy – South County Cal-SOAP invites students of all ages and their parents to its second annual College Fair, 4 to 6pm Thursday in the Gilroy High School gym.

‘Angels in America’ reading

Gilroy – The Gavilan College Theatre Club will stage a reading of Tony Kushner’s “Angels In America” at 6:30pm Monday.

The play that will be read is one of two parts and won the Pulitzer prize for drama in 1993. This play will be directed and read by Gavilan College Theatre students.

The event is free but on-campus parking requires a 75-cent permit. The reading will be staged in the college theater on the main campus at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

SC Demos meet

San Martin – The next meeting is 10am, Nov. 18 at the new permanent location: The San Martin Lions Hall at 12415 Murphy Ave. Agenda items include: Election results, special guests and refreshments.

Don’t get a haircut, yet

Gilroy – Well, at least wait to get your haircut.

Sunday Nov. 19, a cut-a-thon will be held to raise money for the family of Julio Gonzales who died on Oct. 17.

The hairstylist community from Gilroy and Morgan Hill started making phone calls to each other the day after the tragedy, in an effort to help do something to help the family and start a dialogue with the community on pedestrian and driver safety issues.

The Hot Spot Salon, 8025 Kern in Gilroy, will host the 11am to 4pm event.

Gavilan College cosmetology students will offer a luxurious shampoo service before all haircuts and face painting for children. Raffle tickets are being sold for prizes donated by local businesses that include: tanning, dinners for two, salon services and gift baskets.
