Garcia Helmets Big Hit at Cioppino Feed

Gilroy – The annual Cioppino Feed benefitting Gilroy High School athletics was a success, said GHS athletic director Jack Daley. More than 1,000 people paid $50 for the chance to eat crab, dance to Shaboom and bid on various auction items. Nearly 200 volunteers helped the event run smoothly, Daley added. The auction of the helmets, sports memorabilia and other items raised almost $8,000 dollars.

Through the years, the event has raised nearly $500,000 to offset the costs of running the athletic program at the high school. A total amount raised was as yet unavailable, Daley said.

Free Health Tests and Education

Gilroy – The public is invited to a free evening of fun at a health fair at the Gilroy Apartments, 500 IOOF Ave. from 6 to 8pm, Friday. Participants can get screened for diabetes, test their blood pressure, and receive asthma and dental education, as well referrals. Register for low cost medical insurance and more. There will be games, prizes and snacks.

Clothing Featured at Las Madres Sale

Gilroy – Las Madres of Gilroy Spring Garage Sale and Fundraiser will be held from 8am to noon, Friday and Saturday at 7410 Filice Drive. For sale will be infant, children and maternity clothing, furniture, toys and more.

Book Sale Benefits Gilroy Library

Gilroy – The Friends of the Gilroy Library are conducting a $3 per bag book sale from 10am to 1pm Saturday, at the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St.

South County Democrats Meet

San Martin – The next meeting of the South County Democratic Club starts at 10am Saturday at the San Martin Lions Club, 12415 Murphy Ave. Elections will be held for club officers and committee chairs.

Senior Safety and Health Day

Gilroy – The Leadership Gilroy class of 2007 presents the “Senior Safety/Health Awareness Fair” from 9am to 2pm June 7 at the City of Gilroy Senior Center, corner of Sixth and Hanna streets.

The event is free for senior citizens living in Gilroy. There will be hourly door prizes given away throughout the day, including a grand prize give away at 2pm. (Must be present to win).

The event includes:

– Safety demonstrations

– Free lunch for first 250 attending seniors

– Free goodie bags for all participants

– Free transportation from senior housing complexes upon request

– Special health and safety informational booths

RSVP is required for the free lunch.
