Sidewalk Sale Downtown
The Downtown Summer Sidewalk Sale and Vendor & Craft Fair opens up Saturday. This free event features vendor and craft booths on the Green Space at the Gilroy Center for the Arts and at the parking lot at the intersection of Fifth and Monterey streets in addition to the sidewalk sale.

A Nod to the Derby
Celebrating its 28th year, Gilroy Foundation’s “A Day in the Country” has become a highly anticipated community event. This year it’s on Saturday, October 7 for the “Run for the Roses,” a nod to the colorful Kentucky Derby. This year’s event will be held in the Gilroy Gardens Event Pavilion. Silent auction, wine tasting, a Southern-themed dinner and live auction are highlights of the evening, along with complimentary mint juleps served during the silent auction.
This year’s Getaway Raffle is to Lexington, Kentucky, the Thoroughbred Capital of the World, featuring a tour of Taylor Made Farms, the home of California Chrome and a VIP Tour of Woodford Reserve Distillery. Thinking About College
South County Cal-SOAP (SCCC) invites students of all ages and their parents to its 13th annual college fairs, to be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 26 at San Benito High School’s Mattson Gym and Thursday, November 2 at the Gilroy High School Student Center.
Erin C. Gemar, Project Director for the SCCC Consortium. “We sincerely appreciate the continued support from our local school districts and from our higher education partners, Gavilan Community College, CSU Monterey Bay, UC Santa Cruz, Stanford University and the Silicon Valley Education Foundation,” said Erin C. Gemar, Project Director for the SCCC Consortium. “The recent success of Cal-SOAP graduates and their college-going rate is a direct reflection of their support.”
No reservations are required and both events are open to all community members. There is an opportunity to win door prizes for all students in attendance, upon receipt of their evaluation of the event.

Sell and Buy
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is hosting the annual Fall Craft Fair on October 28 and 29 featuring a variety of vendors with unique, handmade gifts and treasures just in time for the holidays. It runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 28th and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 29th at 651 Broadway in Gilroy.

Gavilan Speakers Series
Gender, Sexuality, and Identity is the topic on Coming Out Week to be held Tuesday, October 10 3:35 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Library Study Area at Gavilan College. The presenters will be Patrick Yuh, a professor of Biology at Gavilan College, Dr. Nicholas Park, a professor of Sociology at Gavilan College, and Adrienne Keel, an Outreach Coordinator for LGBTQ Youth Space.
