The normal ‘number one’ situation is easily handled with a push on the lever. The ‘number two’ situation requires a push and hold strategy to get more water to flow through and wash out the waste. You do use more than one gallon in this case but the overall saving is still great.
If these methods are not enough the only solution I have heard of is to install a handicapped toilet. They are taller but they are the only toilet on sale that still flushes the old way with lots of water.
