Gilroy Little League squad drops 5-3 decision to Live Oak
WATSONVILLE – Gilroy’s Boys Majors All-Stars finished in fourth place in the District 39 Tournament after their run ended with a 5-3 loss to the Live Oak All-Stars on Wednesday in Watsonville.
After falling behind 5-0 at the end of two innings, the Gilroy Little League squad staged a comeback with three runs but fell short in the end.
Live Oak got on the board quickly with a pair of solo home runs in the first inning and then scored three more in the second following four consecutive hits.
Gilroy relief pitcher Jacob Gonzalez then entered the game in the third inning, holding Live Oak to only one single and striking out four batters.
Gilroy scored one run in the fourth frame when Jose Gamboa drew a walk and advanced to third on a single by Logan Sweeney. Gamboa then scored on a passed ball. But Sweeney was stranded on second base to end the threat.
In the sixth inning, Gamboa drew another walk and Sweeney replaced him on the base paths after a force out. After Gonzales walked to put runners on the corners, Ryan Tapia belted an RBI single to right. With two outs, Randy Guerrero battled at the plate but was retired to end the game.
The All Stars were awarded All-Star Pins and free hotdogs.
