MORGAN HILL – A 73-year-old Millbrae man died instantly after he was struck by a 2000 BMW driven by a 17-year-old woman from Morgan Hill.

The man was changing the left front tire on his 1997 Ford Ranger pickup a half mile north of the Coyote Creek Drive bridge on U.S. Highway 101 when he was struck, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Terry Mayes. The accident occurred at 3:20 p.m.

“She was driving in lane number four and thought a bus next to her was about to make a lane change,” Mayes said.

Whether the BMW moved onto the shoulder, or the man was crouched next to his wheel too close to the roadway is still under investigation, she said, and no charges have been filed at this point. The truck, she said, was used to transport oversized loads.

A coroner’s official said the man has not been positively identified. The Morgan Hill girl was uninjured.

Traffic, Mayes said, was light and not significantly affected by the accident.

Anyone who witnessed the accident may call CHP at 848-2324.
