Dear Editor:

Now that the governor’s “May Revised” budget has been released, it reconfirms my support of the Recall Gray Davis effort currently occurring in this state.

As I review the budget proposal it is clear that this budget solves nothing and was crafted to buy time until after he knows whether the recall petition drive fails or succeeds. Rather than lay out a fiscal road map that makes sense for California, it creates long term debt that our children and grandchildren will be inheriting.

The centerpiece of the much-revised budget – a nearly $11 billion loan to cover the accumulated deficit is to be repaid by a limited-term increase in the sales tax. Gov. Davis did not offer a rational plan to address the structural deficit in 2003-04 and beyond. Instead, the budget is loaded with more gimmicks and unreliable numbers demonstrating it to be neither credible nor realistic.

I urge readers of The Dispatch to join me in signing the recall petition now! Petitions can be downloaded at www.RecallGrayDavis.com or picked up at the offices of R. J. Dyer Real Property Investments Inc.located at 1230 First St. Suite 204 in Gilroy. If you want to get involved in helping with the recall effort locally call Vic Vanni at 847-1553.

California deserves better leadership! It is time for the voters to take back a government out of control.

Al Howard, Gilroy
