Too bad, too bad! Mayor Tom Springer is not going to run for

Dear Editor:
Too bad, too bad! Mayor Tom Springer is not going to run for office again.
He is the best mayor we have had since Elmer Chesbro. He is seriously handicapped – as he is highly intelligent. He recognizes shenanigans going on in civic business and speaks out.
Isn’t it interesting that Glenn Loma developers have been involved in every land purchase by the Gilroy School District for as long as I can remember. Why should that upset Mayor Springer?!
Apparently he was also concerned about conflict of interest in the task force’s decision to locate the cultural center downtown. Why be concerned about that? The task force delivered just as they were instructed to do – deliver the cultural center downtown. The expert (ex – a has been) and (spurt – a drip under pressure) consultant for $20,000 performed beautifully. Of that $20,000, not a penny was spent on evaluating the church building at First and Kelton streets, as two members representing “It’s Time for the Arts” would have liked.
It is truly unfortunate that the site for the cultural center at Hecker Pass and Santa Theresa was not known to members of the Task Force. The offer, however, by the developer of the 4.25 acres was well known by members of the City Council long before the vote to purchase land at Seventh and Eigleberry streets. Mayor Springer was handicapped by not having the offer in writing so he could champion the offer.
If the City Administration and Council have, at heart, the interest and future of culture in Gilroy, they will pursue that offer of 4.25 acres for a cultural site at Hecker Pass and Santa Theresa.
Time will tell who really rules in the City of Gilroy – an elite few – or John Doe and Mary Roe, the hard working, tax-paying citizens
