A 30-year-old Morgan Hill woman was arrested for leaving her 2- and 4-year-old children alone in a motel room for more than two hours, according to a press release.
Roselyn Haunga was arrested when she approached officers at the Paradise Motel, on Monterey Road south of Dunne Avenue – where she had been staying – shortly after 8 a.m. April 20, police said today.
About 5:45 a.m. police received a call from another woman staying at the motel, reporting the 4-year-old had been standing in the rain in the parking lot crying and asking for her “mommy.” According to police, it was determined the girl may have been standing in the rain for as long as 45 minutes. The woman recognized the child, and escorted her back to the room and found there were no adults and the 2-year-old boy asleep on the bed. The woman said about 2 a.m. she had a difficult time sleeping due to a baby crying in the adjacent room.
Morgan Hill officers established the woman’s identity and attempted to locate her. When they couldn’t, they called Child Protective Services and the children were put in their custody about 8 a.m. Shortly after, Haunga showed up and she was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and booked into county jail. She told police she left the hotel to “get money,” the press release says.
Haunga is on probation for burglary, police said.
