Marine Corps Pfc. Marc A. Nickerson recently reported for duty with 1st Battalion, 10th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Legune N.C.

Nickerson is the son of Jennifer Nickerson of Gilroy, and he is a 2000 graduate of Yolo Hgh School of West Sacramento.

Marine Corps Pvt. David S. Sullivan recently completed basic training at Marin Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

Sullivan is the son of Hallie B. and Kevin E. Sullivan of Gilroy. He is a 2001 graduate of Valley Christian High School of San Jose.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Maria C. Mercado recently contributed to the relief efforts on Guam during a Western Pacific deployment while assign to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.

Mercado is a 1990 graduate of Live Oak High School.

Sailors aboard Mercado’s ship joined members of the Fleet Activities Yokosuka community setting up field galleys to aid those whose homes were battered by Super Typhoon Pongsona, which hit Guam with winds of 180 mph.

Army Reserve Pvt. Ryan A. Ehlers has graduated from the heavy-wheeled vehicle mechanic advanced individual training course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Ehlers is the son of William A. and Maria E. Ehlers of Morgan Hill and is a 2002 graduate of Live Oak High School.

During the course, Ehlers learned to perform unit maintenance on heavy-duty vehicles, including prime movers desingnated as more than ffive tons and associtated trailers, such as crane, hoist and winch assemblies, and mateial handling equipment; perfom maintenance and repair systems, chassis and assemblies pertaining to brake, ignition, engine, electrical, axle, hydraulic, transmission suspension, wheel and steering.
