maximum traffic violation enforcement, plenty of people were still
getting behind the wheel after drinking.

Gilroy – Labor Day weekend has come and gone, and despite warnings of maximum traffic violation enforcement, plenty of people were still getting behind the wheel after drinking.
More collisions occurred this Labor Day weekend compared with the same period last year, including a fatal accident on Highway 152.
Police were called out to an accident that occurred Monday, west of Dinosaur Point Road on Highway 152, involving a car and a semi-trailer truck. A 57-year-old Salinas man, Jose Guadalupe Perez-Moreno, suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle, also a Salinas man, Rigoberto Perez, 24, was arrested for driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to California Highway Patrol.
CHP recorded a fewer number of arrests this year, 16 compared to last year’s 22, but more out of the total number were DUI related.
There were 14 DUI arrests out of 16 this year, while last year, there were 17 DUI arrests out of 22.
Including Monday’s fatal accident, there were 29 collisions this year, with nine of them involving injuries. Last year there were eight injury-related collisions out of 19, and no fatal accidents.
