Dear Editor,

I was delighted to read about the oak planting session in Marty Cheek’s column. I hope this encourages more people to consider planting native oak trees in our landscapes. They have unmatched habitat value, and I have come to love their looks and how they change with the seasons.

They are the signature trees of our landscape. They make California California, not Tasmania or South Africa or Italy. Let’s celebrate California by embracing its rich diversity of native plants.
