Choppers in the hood
We saw a helicopter land on the Glenview Elementary field on Sunday night. Can you tell us what happened?
Red Phone:
Dear Chopper Spotter:
No problem, curious caller! Gilroy Fire Chief Dale Foster explained that the helicopter was dispatched to carry a man who had been beaten with a baseball bat to Valley Medical Center.
The man was attacked at 7:43pm at the intersection of Eigleberry and Ninth streets, as reported in Tuesday’s Dispatch, was conscious but unresponsive and suffered a 3-inch laceration on his forehead.
The fire commander directed an air ambulance to land at Glen View school because it had a sufficiently wide area to land and no overhead obstructions, as well as a fence for crowd control.
Neighbor is howling mad
I am just really pi**ed because my neighbor called the cops on my dog for no reason. I understand calling the cops at night when they are barking. But the thing is it was 10am, and [my neighbor said] my dog was barking. She wasn’t making any noise.
The cop wanted to come into the house and see if she had any shots and stuff. So, I felt like this was for no reason. I would like to know any information so I can know the rules and I want to reach the police and tell them this is an unfair warning and my neighbor is wrong.
Red Phone:
Dear Howling Mad:
Red Phone is hesitant to make suggestions, since it was busy putting a coat of cherry-red lacquer on its headset at 10am and heard nothing like a barking dog. But you have the right idea about contacting the police department to inquire about what specifically the barking-dog ordinance says. Information is power. However, you said the officer wanted to come into your home, but you didn’t say whether he or she actually did.
If you believe police officers entered your home without justified cause, then you can always lodge a complaint with the police department. If you’re still not satisfied, you can always consult an attorney.
But before you run off and do all that, Red Phone always likes to see neighbors seek the best remedy: Talk to each other. Work it out.
If your dog is barking (Red Phone’s dog barks at imaginary beings and plastic bags) there are behavior remedies out there, such as citrus sprays, that can curb midmorning anxiety attacks. Best bet is to ask your veterinarian.
