The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of Dr. Sara Cody as the new County Health Officer this week. Cody served in an interim role after the Dr. Marty Fenstersheib’s retirement.
“Dr. Cody brings extensive knowledge in communicable disease and 15 years of experience as Deputy Health Officers,” said County Executive Jeff Smith. “Her appointment will provide a seamless transition for the Public Health Department, and the community will benefit from her leadership.”
Cody’s duties involve providing public health leadership for all of Santa Clara County, including leading the development of public healthy policy and programs, assessing and reporting on the health status of the community and enforcing local health orders and ordinances.
Cody, who earned a degree in human biology from Stanford University and then her Doctor of Medicine from Yale University School of Medicine, has worked as a Deputy Health Officer/Communicable Disease Controller at the County’s Health Department since 1998.
“I would like to thank the County Executive and the Board of Supervisors for entrusting me with the role of County Health Officer,” Cody said. “I am looking forward to serving the people of Santa Clara County, and working to keep them safe and healthy.”
Cody’s appointment as Health Officer is effective Saturday and her salary will be $210,231.84.
