Church team downs Titans 11-9 to pull off 2-0 sweep in softball

Gilroy – New Hope Community Church turned a nine-run fifth inning into an 11-9 conquest over the Titans in a 2-0 sweep of the Men’s E League Championship Series Monday at Christmas Hill Park.
Paul Rodriguez lined a three-run home run to highlight the decisive New Hope explosion. Rudy Rodriguez (3-for-3) singled twice in the frame.
The New Hope title clinching was one of four championships determined Monday. Only one series, the Co-Rec B League, is 1-1 after Monday’s play, needing a decider last night.
Chicks N’ Sticks built an 8-0 lead by the second inning and held off Feather Haven Mill 12-6 in the Co-Rec B showdown at Christmas Hill. Dave Perez went 4-for-4 and D. J. Simpson rocked a double and two singles for the Chicks N’ Sticks. Brett Scott went 3-for-3 for Feather Haven Mill.
The Good Fellas captured the Men’s BB crown with a 7-6 squeaker over D. A. Wolfe Construction.
Rich Perez blasted a three-run home run as the Good Fellas took control with a four-run showing in the top of the first inning. Wolfe climbed back into play with a three-run third, taking the lead at 5-4 in the fifth when Johnny Lopez singled and scored on a ground-out.
Perez and Gabe Duenas each singled and scored as the Good Fellas took a 6-5 lead in the sixth. Joey Barnes plated an insurance marker in the seventh. Rico Lopez ended the scoring with a home run in the Wolfe seventh.
Bad News earned the Men’s C title with a 16-1 nod over Pacific Coast Bail Bonds. Daniel Salinas homered in a 3-for-4 night for the News. Ruben Lujan went 3-for-3 and Steve Arriaga drove in three Bad News runs. Chris Filice scored the Pacific Coast Bail Bonds run.
Jerry Johnston, Joel Garcia and George Smith each drilled three hits to lead Team Hair FX past the Ball Hoggs 13-8 in a sweep of the Co-Rec C Series at Las Animas Park. Johnston and Brian Moreno of the Ball Hoggs each homered.
