'Chronic runaway' left for school Jan. 6 and hasn't been back

Fewer than six weeks on the job, Gilroy's interim fire chief resigned Monday morning after he was arrested Sept. 7 for furnishing alcohol to a 20-year-old decoy as a part of an undercover sting by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department.

GILROY—After more than three hours, authorities gave up an intense hunt Tuesday evening near the Gilroy Sports Park for an “armed and dangerous” man wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Hollister on Easter Sunday last year.

It’s been one month since Sierra LaMar’s parents discovered their 15-year-old Morgan Hill daughter was missing. Tonight, Sierra’s family will hold a special vigil and balloon release at Burnett Elementary, 85 Tilton Ave., at 6:30 p.m. to mark the one-month anniversary. 

After spending Friday afternoon extinguishing a fire that consumed about 50 acres of vegetation in west Morgan Hill, crews will spend the night “mopping up” the area and making sure all remaining hotspots are out, according to authorities.
