Council considers strict sign rules, dealerships boggled
In the midst of a city-led crackdown on business signs, auto dealers are pleading with city council to let them advertise with balloons, flags and certain types of large signs – all which are currently illegal in Gilroy – saying that the law squelches business.
Turning up the heat on URM property owners
City officials plan on turning up the heat on owners of buildings deemed unfit to survive a high magnitude earthquake, especially those who have not complied with Gilroy's unreinforced masonry ordinance. At the Aug. 18 City Council meeting, Mayor Don Gage advocated for increasing fines on delinquent property owners.
Gilroy Gardens Stays Lit for Another Month
The Gilroy Gardens Chinese light exhibit ‘Lumination,’ which was scheduled to end in November, has been extended until Jan. 8. The nighttime show of Chinese artistry made with tens of thousands of colored lights, has drawn tourists from all over and added to the park’s hours of operation. It will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. through most of December. It will be open every night from Dec. 16 to Jan. 8—but not Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Dust-up over construction on Rancho Hills Drive
Thirty-four-year-old West Gilroy resident Anna Miyabara, pregnant with twins, moved to Gilroy from the Bay Area a few months ago, hoping to raise her babies away from the air pollution of the big city.
