City to approve new contracts for police, management

The City of Gilroy will approve and adopt a Memorandum of Understanding for a two-year contract with AFSCME Local 101 and the Gilroy Management Association at next Monday’s regular Council meeting. No deal has yet been reached with IAFF Local 2805 representing Gilroy's firefighters. 

$1.75M to guide General Plan update

City Council voted unanimously Monday night to authorize an almost $1.75 million contract to hire two consulting firms that will work in tandem to guide a 25-person citizen committee in updating Gilroy’s 20-year General Plan.

Alejo’s minimum wage bill OK’d by Assembly

The California State Assembly on Thursday passed Assemblyman Luis Alejo’s bill proposing to increase the minimum wage and attach it to an inflationary index.

Alejo bill to increase state’s minimum wage hits Assembly floor

Assemblyman Luis Alejo, author of a bill hitting the Assembly floor this week proposing to increase the state’s minimum wage, said the legislation would assist lower-income families in keeping up with escalating costs and that it would dissuade municipalities from passing local rates.

City bond measure…floating

Mayor Don Gage is tired of tackling Gilroy's capital improvement projects in piecemeal fashion and is proposing a “Quality of Life” bond measure that could create a revenue stream ranging from $25 to $35 million for the city.

Home prices are on the up-and-up in South County according to the Santa Clara County Assessor's Office, which means property taxes will also soon rise.
