Group files petition for charter school
A Gilroy-based charter school that this week has been touting its high API scores submitted a petition to open a similar school in Hollister for the 2013-14 school year. Gilroy Charter School Principal James Dent and another representative presented the petition during the public comment period at the Hollister School District board meeting Aug. 28.
Vigil Wednesday night for missing teen Sierra LaMar
Volunteers as well as friends and family of Sierra LaMar will have a vigil at City Hall Wednesday to raise funds for the ongoing efforts to find the missing teen, and to bring awareness to her disappearance which is approaching the six-month mark.

Born in Watsonville, CA., wife and homemaker to Herschel Frank Shaffer for 44 years.She was a devoted Mom to Doug (Lynn), Stacey and Frankie and Grandma to her granddaughters Taylor and Brooke- "The light of her life." She would drive to Hollister from Los Banos everyday to watch Taylor and Brooke and pick them up at Tres Pinos School every day. She was and always will be- a huge part in their lives and will be missed dearly.
