Everyone associated with the Christopher High girls varsity track and field team knew the challenge of warding off a deep, experienced North Monterey County squad at the Monterey Bay League Finals would be daunting but doable at the same time.

Criminals knew him as Bobby, a powerful, high-class crook with lots of connections. They knew his store, Bobby's Place, a windowless storefront with no sign at 6700 Brem Lane near Garlic City RV Park, as an oasis for illegal sales.

After Saint Louise Regional Hospital released its results from a recent phone survey asking Gilroy voters if they would be in favor of a sales tax increase – an avenue the hospital is exploring in light of the exponentially growing need for a bigger emergency room – a group of Gavilan College statistics students took interest and conducted their own poll.

After an off-season spent planning, regrouping and reflecting on the experiences gained in the inaugural year, volunteers kicked off the first Gilroy Farmers’ Market of 2012 on Sunday on the corner of Seventh and Monterey streets in downtown Gilroy.
