Prep Field Hockey: Mustangs have strength in numbers, experience

GILROY—This time last year, Gilroy field hockey coach Adam Gemar was scratching his head and wondering how he was going to make it through the season with only 13 girls. When the Central Coast Section mandatory dead period ended on Aug. 15, the Mustangs saw between 30 and 35 girls turn out for practice. What a difference a year can make.

Remember to Breathe

My heart breaks each time a client calls to say their loved one has passed away. Whether their spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, or child, the call is always hard. The disbelief and unimaginable grief is cloaked with a sense of urgent purpose to tend to practical issues more easily understood. In that moment, I just want to love them, comfort them and help make sense of their life ahead.

Preventing heatstroke casualties

California is privileged to have beautiful weather, especially in the summer, but did you know that within 10 minutes the temperature inside of your vehicle can increase by 20 degrees? You might assume that your child or pet will be okay in your vehicle for just a couple minutes while you run an errand because you rolled down a window. However, this actually does little to keep the car cool. It only takes a few minutes for a car to heat up and become deadly to a child or animal left inside.
