Softball: Balers squeeze by Gilroy 2-1 in league opener
It’s been since 2006 that the Gilroy HIgh softball team has been able to best San Benito. But that doesn’t mean the Mustangs haven’t had their chances, and Tuesday that streak continued in Gilroy as the Balers made it 20 straight wins over their rival.

A native of Baton Rough, LA, she attended Colorado schools receiving her L.V.N. degree, and has resided in San Benito County since 1985 where she worked as a reporter and photographer for local newspapers. She had been a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Golden Colorado; was a representative for Hollister with the Sister Cities with Japan; and active with the March Of Dimes Program in San Benito County. A home maker most of her life. Dorothy is survived by husband Danny; son Westly Pannell of Santa Cruz; daughter Kim Pannell and grandson Dillon of San Jose; brother Jim Wilson ( spouse Cora) of Kansas; nephew John Wilson and family of Oklahoma; nephew Clint Wilson and family of Colorado; niece Tammy Kiley and family of Kansas; brother-in-law Albert Torres (spouse Cyndee) and! family of Hollister; friends Lisa McShane (Mark) of Hollister, and George Pannell of San Diego; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

MHPD patrol car involved in traffic accident

Fundraiser for Gilroyan with rare disease
Friends and family of John Vasquez, a 46-year-old Gilroy native who was diagnosed less than three years ago with a rare nerve disorder called chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, along with multiple myeloma (a cancer that starts in the plasma cells of bone marrow) and monoclonal gammopathy (a condition in which an abnormal protein is in the blood) will host a family barbeque, raffle and fundraiser from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy.
