Nicholas John Vigilante

Nicholas Vigilante passed away on December 14, 2010, after a prolonged Illness. He was born in Westport, Connecticut on March 5, 1929, to his parents John and Rose Vigilante.

Nick grew up in Westport and was active in School sports playing football and baseball. He enlisted in the Army at the age Seventeen and was trained as a paratrooper. He served in the Army of Occupation in Japan after World War II. Nick returned to Westport and became an Electrician.

Nick married Catherine O’Hara and later moved to Morgan Hill, CA, to start Alpine Mushroom Culture with his father John and Brothers Joe and Jim.

Nick and Catherine raised three daughters and remained close with his brothers and their families. He continued his love of sports, enjoyed roping and bowling and became an avid golfer. Nick loved to socialize and had many good friends throughout his life.

After retiring from farming, Nick and Catherine traveled often in their RV. Nick and Catherine moved to Tulare in 1999.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents John and Rose Vigilante and Brothers Joe and Jim Vigilante. Nick is Survived by Catherine, his wife of 58 years; daughters Toni Cordtz, Paula Nasello and Nickie Vigilante; son-in-laws Kent Cordtz and Greg Nasello; and seven grandchildren – Nicholas, Caitlin, Karl and Eva Cordtz; Daniel and Angela Nasello and Alisha Purdue.

Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at 11:30 A.M. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 E. Pleasant Ave., Tulare, CA. Interment will be at the Tulare District Cemetery.

The family requests donations to the Kidney Foundation of Central California, P.O. Box 5651, Fresno, CA 93755. Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller’s Tulare Funeral Home.
