SAN JOSE – A poor third quarter was the difference Monday night, as Gilroy High’s boys basketball team lost 54-44 at Santa Teresa High School in San Jose.

Trailing by just a point, 23-22, at halftime, the Mustangs fell flat to begin the second half, being outscored 17-8 in the third. The Mustangs stayed even in the fourth, matching Santa Teresa’s 14. The result was a 10-point defeat, leaving Gilroy 4-3 on the season.

Tyler Hartman led the Mustangs for the third straight game in scoring with 16 points. He also had nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Elijah Harrell, Greg Hamik and Max Fishler all had six points for Gilroy, and Michael Hartman grabbed seven rebounds. Neil Azcueta scored four points, and Dolapo Opere, Jamie Jensen and Raul Quintanar all made a bucket.

The Mustangs are back on the court tonight at 7 p.m. at San Lorenzo Valley (3-4).
