Gilroy – After interviewing three additional suspects in the Glen View Elementary School arson fire that rendered a classroom wing unusable, Gilroy police say they do not expect to make any more arrests.

Detective Mitch Madruga said Wednesday the three juveniles, who range in age from 6 to 14, were all able to provide reliable information of their whereabouts on March 29, the afternoon of the fire.

Last week, Madruga arrested an 11-year-old Gilroy girl who is suspected of starting the fire that caused $1.5 million in damage. The fire originated on a janitor’s cart outside a classroom wing on the north side of the 600 W. Eighth St. campus. It burned through one classroom and damaged three others, forcing the school district to move teachers and students out of the four-classroom wing.

The girl told investigators she was with the three other juveniles when the fire started, but Madruga said the children’s interviews indicated otherwise.

Investigators with the fire department will determine whether a $2,000 reward for information about the arson will be paid to one or more people. A tip on the day of the fire led investigators to the 11-year-old.

She remains out of custody with caretakers while the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office reviews her case.
