The simple act of pinching off the dead blooms and feeding both the pansies and violas twice a month will enable them to keep blooming for a longer period of time.
For intense color, plant snapdragons. They can be found in almost any height you wish. They are available in solid colors as well as mixed colors. In addition to snaps, for a soft touch in looks try the Iceland poppy which blooms in pastel shades. Fragrant stock and their white to purple flower colors blooming against gray foliage will also help grace the flower bed with color and an nice aroma as a bonus.
