Gilroy – The “second season” starts Wednesday for the Gilroy girls’ volleyball team.

The eighth-seeded Mustangs open the Central Coast Section playoffs 7pm at home against Andrew Hill.

“I am happy with the draw,” coach Sue Grogan said. “We’re looking forward to the playoffs.”

The GHS-Hill contest is in a sense a “play-in” game since they are the two lowest seeds. It was no surprise that Tri-County Athletic League co-champion San Benito got the No. 1 seed. The winner of the Mustangs-Falcons confrontation meets the Haybalers at 11am Saturday at North Salinas High.

Semifinals are scheduled Nov. 16 at Santa Clara High with the finals Nov. 18 at Independence.
