Gilroy Police help recapture wanted man after he allegedly faked
convulsions, was taken to Saint Louise Hospital and attempted to
escape
Gilroy – A San Jose man police believe is behind a rash of burglaries in Morgan Hill was arrested near Saint Louise Regional Hospital after he attempted to escape for the second time, police said.

Phillip Cutting, 26, was taken to Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, resisting arrest, burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, under the influence of a controlled substance, giving false identification and escaping arrest, according to MHPD Cmdr. Terrie Booten.

The sequence of events began when off-duty officer Kyle Christensen saw Cutting, who he knew was wanted for burglaries in the South County area, entering the TJ Maxx store in Vineyard Town Center about 11am Thursday.

Christensen called for assistance, and when officer Greg Dini arrived. When Cutting saw the officers, he fled. They tackled him at the entrance to the store.

Cutting fought with officers while on the ground, and his pocket knife fell out of his pocket during the struggle. He grabbed his knife and continued to try to open it until a third MHPD officer arrived and he was handcuffed, police said.

At the station, Cutting told officers his name was Philip Aguilar, and he also told them he was diabetic, then went into convulsions.

Booten said Cutting was taken to Saint Louise Hospital, where medical personnel told officers they thought he might have been faking.

While Cutting was being escorted out, he broke free and ran. He locked himself inside a storage room at a nearby business. Gilroy Police officers responded and helped break into the room and take Cutting back into custody.
